Calcium nitrate is available as a solid salt (99% κ.β. Ca(NO3)2·4H2O) or as a solution 50% wt (Ca(NO3)2) (NATRASBESTOL 50) for direct use. It is a chemical suitable for suppressing-blocking the formation of odor-in sewer networks and in municipal wastewater treatment plants that are mainly due to release of hydrogen sulfide due to anaerobic fermentation conditions of sulphate.
The main uses of calcium nitrate is “Interceptor” reduction of SO42- found inside the sewage with the radical of nitrates (ΝΟ3–), from which bacteria receive the required Ο2 and suspend thereby the reduction of SO42- to HS– and S2-, until exhaustion of nitrate radicals.
Other uses are for coolant ,antifreeze of cement and rubber gloves.
When in granular form the product is used as a fertilizer for the improvement of the soil and the control of certain plant diseases. It is applied especially during Spring time.
