Ammonium hydroxide, commonly known as ammonia solution, is a solution of ammonia (NH3) in water (H2O). The ammonium hydroxide finds many applications such as:
-In the manufacture of chemical fertilizers and organic and inorganic chemicals containing nitrogen.
-In the manufacture of nitric acid.
-As alkalinity agent in wastewater treatment.
-In several commercial cleaners. All cleaning products contain a proportion of ammonium hydroxide (approximately 5-10%). Also, diluted ammonium hydroxide can be used alone as a cleaner known as household ammonia.
-In textile and tobacco industry, in the manufacture of rubber, artificial silk, ink, lubricants, explosives, ceramics, etc.
-In electronic applications, through chemical vapor deposition (silicon nitride deposition) and in the manufacture of semiconductors.
-As refrigerator fluid, replacing chlorofluorocarbons (freon).
-As a food additive with code E527. It is used as a bulking agent and acidity regulator (in eggs, cocoa and caramel production)
