Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) finds many industrial applications. Caustic soda is a strong base and has the basic capacity to raise the pH of any solution. It is available in a solution of 50 % w/w of NaOH and below. Often caustic soda is added to acidic wastewater to ensure fast and effective neutralization before further treatment or disposal to a natural recipient, because high or low values of pH may cause adverse effects to the recipients.
