SULPHURIC ACID
PACKAGING | Available in IBCs of 1000 L, in iso-tank containers of up to 25 tons. Packaging in containers of 30 L upon special inquiry.
STORAGE | Concentrated sulfuric acid> 96 wt%, may be stored in steel tanks where the moisture inflow is ensured. The solutions (at room temperature) can be stored in tanks from PVC, PE, or metal coated with suitable rubber or polyester resistant to strong acids.
REGULATIONS | According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP/GHS).
Sulfuric acid, commonly known as vitriol, is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid, colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid that is soluble in water at all concentrations, with release of large amounts of heat. It is highly corrosive, caustic (causes severe burns on contact with skin), and oxidizing agent at high concentrations and temperatures. Moreover, the sulfuric acid has a very strong dehydrating activity when it gets in contact with organic material (e.g. wood, paper), carbonizes it, removing water molecules.
One major application of hydrochloric acid in wastewater treatment is to neutralize the alkalinity of the effluent e.g. the chemical reaction with caustic soda gives the neutral sodium sulfate as a final product.
