Deionized water is called the water that is free from salts and mineral ions such as sodium, calcium, iron, copper, chloride, sulfate, etc. Deionization is a chemical process that uses specially manufactured ion-exchange resins, which exchange hydrogen and hydroxide ions for dissolved minerals, and then recombine to form water. The pH of deionized water during the production of the range 6.5-7.5. During the filling, the storage tanks are in contact with atmospheric air,  so the dissolved CO₂ affects the pH to a value close to 5.7.

The deionized water is used for pharmaceutical, medical and laboratory purposes and it finds a lot of applications as a main ingredient in many shampoos, cosmetics and perfumes. It is also used in microelectronics, in the production of electrolytes for acidic and alkaline batteries and generally in any industrial processe which requires chemically pure water.
